Winter Walk and Wheel to School Day is taking place on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 in schools across Ontario!
Winter Walk and Wheel to School Day is an annual celebration that encourages students to travel actively throughout their school day during the wintertime. Walking or wheeling to school contributes to:
Reduced vehicular traffic near the school entrance, which improves road safety
- Reduced noise and air pollution from excessive vehicle use
- Improved levels of physical activity among children
- Improved student cognitive development and brain health
- Improved student memory, attention in class and academic performance
How can schools celebrate Winter Walk and Wheel Month?
Schools can celebrate by organizing special walk events and classroom activities on Winter Walk and Wheel to School Day (the first Wednesday of February) and anytime throughout the month of February. The aim is to celebrate active school travel and to spend time outside in all seasons. Bussed schools can participate by encouraging students to walk or wheel to their bus stop and to walk around the school yard during recess or before bell time. Students and families are also encouraged to walk or wheel to school throughout the month of February.
